Steve Matthis
Division Chair

Dr. Steven Matthis grew up on a livestock farm in Sampson County.  He graduated from NCSU with a Masters in Agriculture Education.  After which he taught at Brevard High School in Transylvania County from 1976 to 1978.  Dr. Matthis continued his career by instructing in the Agricultural Science Program at Sampson Community college from 1978 to 1980.  Dr. Matthis returned to Sampson Community college in 1993 after helping manage a family livestock operation for 13 years.  He was the first instructor in the new SCC Livestock and Poultry Program.  Dr. Matthis completed his Doctorate in of Occupational Education from NCSU in 2004. Now, he is currently Division Chair of the Animal Science curriculum and is currently Dean of Occupational Programs.  He teaches courses in animal science and farm facilities maintenance.  He also farms part-time growing cattle and hay.

Lisa Horne
Division Secretary

A native of Sampson County, Lisa graduated with honors from Sampson Community College with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in General Office Technology in August of 1989 and received the Outstanding Student Award in the GOT curriculum. She worked part-time in the SCC Bookstore while attending classes and in the Skills Lab after graduation. In August 1994, she was employed full-time as the Evening Secretary. The summer of 1998, she became Secretary for the Occupational Programs.
